Soft Life Sundays: When God Confirms a Thing Softly

Finding my way back to Eden and discovering that God's confirmations are often wrapped in rest, beauty, and belonging. ✨🌿☀️

There are moments when God confirms a thing so gently that if you're moving too fast, you'll miss it.

No fireworks. No grand announcement. No booming voice from heaven.

Just a quiet knowing.

A subtle nudge.

A moment that settles into your spirit and whispers:

"Pay attention. This is it."

That's exactly what happened to me this weekend.

For the past several months, our Be inspiHERed community has gathered every Sunday for what we called Sunday Social.

During the cooler months, it was exactly what many of us needed.

We settled inside.

We settled into ourselves.

We slowed down long enough to hear what had been buried beneath responsibility, expectations, performance, and pressure.

Every Sunday became a soft landing place.

A place to reflect. A place to regulate. A place to reset. A place to notice what God was doing within us.

Without realizing it, we were learning how to settle.

Because before something can be anchored, it must first settle.

As spring arrived and the temperatures began to shift, I noticed something changing within me.

The conversations were changing. The reflections were changing.

The invitations God was placing before me were changing.

And quietly, He began settling a new phrase into my spirit:

Not soft living rooted in luxury alone.

Not softness as weakness.

Not softness as avoidance.

But softness rooted in harmony.

Presence. Peace. Discernment. Intentional living.

The kind of softness that allows a woman to honor her capacity while still walking boldly in her purpose.

The kind of softness that says:

"I can be soft in my spirit and firm in my stance."

I had been carrying the vision in my heart, but I hadn't fully seen it yet.

Until Sunday.

After an incredible retreat weekend, I casually suggested that a few of us stop in Little Rock for brunch before heading home.

That was all.

A simple suggestion.

Nothing elaborate.

Nothing planned weeks in advance.

Just a thought.

What happened next felt like a manifestation of something God had already been curating.

My sister Monique immediately said,

"We should coordinate our outfits."

The rest of us started thinking through what we had packed.

Before long, we had somehow coordinated ourselves into beautiful shades of green, white, and khaki.

Then my sister Nettie started searching for brunch locations.

My Bestie Latoya started searching too.

And without consulting one another, they both landed on the exact same restaurant.

The exact same place.

The exact same recommendation.

The exact same vision.

R & M Cafe and Coffee Bar in Downtown Little Rock

When we arrived, I knew immediately that this wasn't just brunch.

It was confirmation.

The parking lot was directly across the street—which anyone who enjoys downtown dining knows is already a blessing.

The decor was beautiful.

The atmosphere was warm.

The energy was inviting.

The conversations flowed effortlessly.

No rushing. No performing. No proving. No pressure.

Just women enjoying one another's presence.

Women savoring a moment.

Women allowing themselves to receive.

Then I noticed the sign on the wall.

"Don't Eat. Savor."

I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Because that's exactly what this season feels like.

For so many years, many of us have survived.

We've built. We've sacrificed. We've carried. We've produced. We've poured.

We've accomplished.

But somewhere along the way, many of us forgot how to savor.

We consume experiences without fully receiving them.

We move from achievement to achievement without celebrating.

We accomplish goals without honoring the journey.

We live life without fully tasting it.

Yet throughout Scripture, we see a God who invites us to savor.

To taste and see. To dwell. To abide. To rest. To delight. To enjoy.

As the food arrived, the conversations deepened, and the laughter filled the room, I realized that what I was experiencing wasn't simply brunch.

It was the embodiment of everything God had been placing in my heart.

The food was top-tier.

The service was top-tier.

The atmosphere was top-tier.

The experience was top-tier.

But beyond all of that, it felt soft.

It felt sacred.

And in a world that constantly demands more, louder, faster, bigger, and busier, there was something healing about experiencing a few hours that simply felt nourishing.

No agenda. No pressure. No performance. Just presence.

And it led me to a deeper realization.

Let's Get Back to Eden

Why did this feel so nourishing?

Why did something as simple as beautiful conversation, intentional connection, delicious food, and a peaceful atmosphere feel so healing?

Because I believe our souls recognize what they were originally created for.

Before there were deadlines.

Before there were demands.

Before there was striving.

Before there was survival.

There was a garden.

When God created humanity, He did not place Adam and Eve into a battlefield.

He placed them into a garden.

A place of beauty. A place of provision. A place of relationship. A place of peace.

A place where they could walk with Him in the cool of the day.

The Garden of Eden was God's original soft landing space for humanity.

Everything they needed was already present.

They didn't have to hustle for their worth.

They didn't have to prove their value.

They didn't have to compete for significance.

They simply lived in communion with God and stewarded what He had entrusted to them.

Perhaps that's why so many of us feel spiritually homesick.

Not because we're longing for luxury.

We're longing for Eden.

We're longing for harmony.

We're longing for rest.

We're longing for the experience of being fully known, fully loved, fully provided for, and fully present.

The world teaches us to push harder.

The Kingdom invites us to abide.

Jesus echoes this invitation in Matthew 11:28-30:

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Notice He doesn't offer more striving.

He offers rest.

Not because we are weak.

But because rest is part of God's design.

Even Jesus regularly withdrew to quiet places.

He stepped away from crowds.

He spent time in gardens.

He shared meals.

He gathered around tables.

He understood the ministry of presence.

The ministry of fellowship.

The ministry of slowing down long enough to receive.

Softness, when rooted in God, is not indulgence.

It's stewardship.

It's tending to the garden of your soul.

Proverbs 4:23 reminds us:

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

If everything flows from our hearts, then creating environments that nourish our hearts isn't selfish.

It's wise. It's necessary. It's Kingdom. Maybe that's why the brunch felt so sacred.

It wasn't just a meal.

It was a reminder.

A glimpse.

A small return to Eden.

A table surrounded by beauty.

A space filled with laughter.

A moment free from performance.

A few hours where women could simply be.

And perhaps that's what Soft Life Summer is really about.

Not escaping responsibility.

Not chasing aesthetics.

Not performing a lifestyle.

But creating intentional moments that nurture the soul and remind us of God's original design.

Moments that help us return to harmony.

Moments that help us savor.

Moments that help us breathe.

Moments that help us remember that before humanity ever worked, humanity first walked with God.

So this summer, I want us to gently ask ourselves:

What would it look like to get back to Eden?

To create soft landing spaces? To cultivate beauty? To honor rest?

To savor God's goodness?

To walk with Him in the cool of the day again?

Because I believe our souls are longing for it.

And I believe God is still inviting us there.

So today marks the unofficial beginning of something new.

Welcome to Soft Life Sundays.

A weekly invitation into softer rhythms.

Intentional experiences.

Meaningful conversations.

Refined living.

And moments worth savoring.

Throughout the summer, I'll be sharing reflections and experiences that embody this spirit.

Brunches.

Tea experiences.

Botanical garden strolls.

Museum visits.

Poetry nights.

Live music listening experiences.

Curated moments that remind us that softness and strength can coexist.

That peace is productive.

That rest is sacred.

That presence is powerful.

And that life was never meant to be rushed through.

It was meant to be savored.

Because sometimes God's greatest confirmations don't arrive with noise.

Sometimes they arrive over brunch.

And if Sunday taught me anything, it's this:

The most beautiful things God creates are often the things we never forced.

They are simply the things we allowed.🌿

Reflection Question

Or perhaps something completely different.

Let's dream together.
